gameface

Today the scale does not reflect how I feel.  I feel stronger, leaner and more focused. I've made good food choices, drank a lot of water and worked out this week.  The problem could be that it's only the third day of the week and I bombed it this past weekend. Next week's weigh-in will be mucho better I promise!

   2013 wednesday weigh-ins

   Jan 23 [week 1] 174.0  (+3)
   Jan 30 [week 2] 175.2  (+1.2)

   Dec 2011 starting weight: 196
   Goal weight:  149
   Pounds lost:  20.8
   Pounds to go:  26.2

It's a heels, blazer, lipstick, fancy necklace day around here. That's right, gameface day at work. Some unspoken underlying feeling that stuff is happening and you need to be prepared for whatever comes your way. In the words of Kirsten Dunst, bring it on.

Happy Weigh-in Wednesday!

backfill

Week #4 update on the new house!

Last week they backfilled the dirt along the foundation. Today they're pouring the concrete floors in the basement, garage and porch.  And we're lucking out with a 70 degree day at the end of January. Woot!

Checking out the garage floor.  (that view makes my heart so happy!)

My thoughts this week have been clear vs. frosted shower doors (deep, I know).  All the models have clear glass doors, and the more I try to live with that decision, the more I feel like I need that privacy during shower time. Plus how the heck do you keep it spotless?  I know, Rain-X and squeegee, but I don't know if that's a lifestyle I can keep up. So I think we're opting for frosted.

Until next week!

Little Miss Elmo

It's been a little while since I've posted an update on Miss Em, who's already 20 1/2 months old!

She can say a handful of words, and adds to the list every day. Lately she started referring to herself as "Elmo". She can say broke, help, up, book, brother (bubba), milk and poop. You know, all the essentials. The rest of her baby talk sounds like something out of a small African tribe.  A lot of "wakitikiliki" talk. There is a lot more meaning behind her words now, and she looks at you like you should be getting every last bit of it.

She had a week-long bout of RSV earlier this month.  She coughed a bunch and wasn't eating much. Since then she is feeling much better and has been cleaning her plate at almost every meal.  The tummy is back and she's shot our of her size 18 month pants and into the 2Ts. I swear she looks older every day.

Of course she's still crazy about her brother.  They were home with each other for two weeks around Christmas, and never got sick of each other.  She beats up on him a little, but those are just sibling love pats. One afternoon I heard Big E shouting "help" from down the hall. I ran in to find him stuck in his closet with Miss Em holding the door shut. So yeah, he gets bullied more than she does.

It's always a good thing when real life is more entertaining than television. And my kids don't disappoint.

weigh-in wednesday #1

I'm going to start weighing in on wednesdays to stay on top of my weight loss. I've got to keep it top-of-mind or else the weeks slip by with no change.

Recap: Post-baby #2 starting weight on Dec 15, 2011 was 196. I lost 25 pounds in 2012 down to 171. Woot!

2013 GOAL: 149 lbs (!)  I've never really been in the 160s for longer than a hot minute. 149 sounds absurd in my head, but oh how awesome would that be!

   2013 wednesday weigh-ins

   Jan 23 [week 1] 174.0  (+3)

Up three pounds from December - eek! I'm feeling every pound of it too! It's been too dark and cold for me to run during the week and I've been in eating/hibernation mode.  But the new skinny jeans are not fitting. Time to break out of the funk!

I put this collage together several months ago of my two post-baby weight losses, and while it's encouraging to see the changes, it's also a kick in the booty because I'm still the same weight as I was in October 2012. Ready to break out of the 170s!

foundation

This week we have a foundation for our house!

We took a day and visited a bunch of vendors: lighting, plumbing fixtures, granite counter/sink, exterior stone, shower glass and appliances. It's exhausting but fun!

Here is our exterior stone in Sante Fe and our granite in Tropical Brown:

It'll be so exciting to see all our selections come together!

groundbreaking!

Big news!!! After months of dealing with county zoning, surveyors and shady builders, we finally broke ground on our new home last Friday!  I think it's the prettiest hole in the ground I've ever seen.

Dig dig dig!

Here's the view to the Northeast from our future walk-out basement.  Looks can be a little deceiving: those are all thorn trees and cows have destroyed the pond.  We heard you can burn off the thorns, so nothing a blow torch and excavator can't fix!

Em didn't want to get down in the dirt, but she finally figured out how fun it was to stomp on the dirt clods. Here she is standing in the garage.

Testing out the soil compaction. Good hard clay!

This weekend we picked out our garage doors, fireplace and windows, and visited the model to look at every little fixture, outlet and pull. So many decisions to be made in the next few months! But so fun!

Saturday was also Big E's first basketball game!  His first words when it was over? "I don't get it." He's still working on the concept of offense and not defending your own teammates. But he still had fun!

Here's his highlight reel!
